At the 2016 RCPsych International Congress, I will be appointed to the new position of RCPsych Associate Registrar for Sustainability. This appointment follows my two-year fellowship with the College from 2013-2015 and really demonstrates the success of the CSH fellowship programme and the commitment that RCPsych have to sustainability. It is a five-year position and has the following aims:

  1. To develop strategies to improve the sustainability of mental health care according to the principles of sustainable health care: prevention, empowerment, improving value, considering carbon.
  2. To improve the sustainability of College processes, standards and guidance
  3. To lead the College’s work on the “Choosing Wisely” campaign
  4. To promote sustainability in postgraduate training

If you are a member of the RCPsych and interested in getting involved with this please get in touch with me at daniel.maughan@sustainablehealthcare.org.uk

That's a great appointment and really demonstrates that the College is taking Sustainability seriously.

I'm particularly looking forward to the 'Choosing Wisely' campaign as I think clinicians in psychiatry are at times guilty of not keeping value in mind when we provide interventions.

Congratulations Daniel. What a well deserved appointment. Given your passion and all the hard work you've already put into this I cannot imagine anyone would be better for the post.

I would love to be involved in any way that I can be.
