At the 2016 RCPsych International Congress, I will be appointed to the new position of RCPsych Associate Registrar for Sustainability. This appointment follows my two-year fellowship with the College from 2013-2015 and really demonstrates the success of the CSH fellowship programme and the commitment that RCPsych have to sustainability. It is a five-year position and has the following aims:
- To develop strategies to improve the sustainability of mental health care according to the principles of sustainable health care: prevention, empowerment, improving value, considering carbon.
- To improve the sustainability of College processes, standards and guidance
- To lead the College’s work on the “Choosing Wisely” campaign
- To promote sustainability in postgraduate training

That's a great appointment and really demonstrates that the College is taking Sustainability seriously.
I'm particularly looking forward to the 'Choosing Wisely' campaign as I think clinicians in psychiatry are at times guilty of not keeping value in mind when we provide interventions.
