The Critical Care Susnet aims to foster environmental sustainability within the care of critically ill patients through the sharing of resources, projects and ideas. Endorsed by the Intensive Care Society and the British Association of Critical Care Nurses, it comprises healthcare professionals across all areas of critical care, and at every career stage from student onwards. The network welcomes everyone, not just critical care professionals, including students, academics researchers, patients, and the wider public.
Globally, it is vital that we reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 60% by 2030. This network will contribute to reaching that requirement by working toward three goals:
- providing a hub of resources which help all those working in critical care take action wherever possible inside their units.
- providing both tools and a forum for discussion to help intensive care professionals collaborate on sustainability efforts across Trusts and Health Boards throughout the UK.
- enabling national and international collaboration and supporting efforts to decarbonise healthcare globally.
Please join us to share your experiences, examples of projects and resources; to signpost events; and to ask questions of the group.
How we started
The network was started by the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare and jointly endorsed by the Intensive Care Society and British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) in 2022. The endorsement was the product of the Society’s drive to decarbonise its activities, and the declaration of a climate emergency by BACCN.
