Central Liverpool PCN undertook a 6 month project using the existing process of structured medication reviews (SMRs) to focus on deprescribing.
81 patients were reviewed.
Reviews took an average of 27 minutes.
37 items were stopped and 32 items were reduced, compared to 16 items stopped and 9 items reduced in the control group usual approach to SMRs.
60% of the items stopped had a carbon rating, of these 72% had a medium to high carbon footprint.
The reviews saved £914 per annum more than the usual approach.
