Team Members: Sr Emilia Wronska, Endoscopy Preassessment and JAG Lead

Setting/Patient Group: Endoscopy Unit

Issue to be Addressed:

Inappropriate use of single-use patient transfer sheets in one Endoscopy unit, contributing to environmental waste and costs.

  • Explore and gather data on reusable alternatives for continued required use.

Outcome:

Clinical

  • No negative impact to patients

Social

  • Upholding patient independence throughout the Endoscopy journey.
  • Fostering a mindset shift among staff towards sustainable practices.

Environmental

  • Estimated annual carbon savings of 3,726 kgCO2e

Economic

  • Estimated annual savings of £2,160 through estimated 90% reduction of single-use transfer sheet procurement.

Key Learning Point:

The project facilitated valuable connections across the organization that will support the ongoing Green Health agenda and enable a positive shift in staff mindset towards environmental considerations.
