The NZDSI 2025 conference held in Wellington this year had some excellent sustainability talks. These included 'Plastics in dermatology: How it harms us and what we can do about it', 'High-value care: aligning profitability, sustainability, and patient outcomes', and 'Sustainable dermatology: a practical guide' by Dr Eugene Tan an academic dermatologist and Adjunct Lecturer at University of New South Wales.

Dr Izzy Macdonald also presented the NZ results of an international survey regarding PPE use in Dermatological surgery, looking at how we could make this more sustainable.

Please have a look at some of Dr Tan's work when you have a chance, he is a member of the Environmental Sustainability Group (ESG) of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, has published articles on sustainability and continues to collaborate with researchers globally on the topic.

Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming article by Dr Izzy Macdonald, Dr Gemma Gardner and Dr Will Hunt on sustainable PPE use- hopefully coming soon!
