SusQI case study – Royal Cornwall Hospitals Green Team Competition – Domestic Services Team

SusQI project completed as part of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Green Team Competition from February to July 2022 by the Domestic Services

Team members:

Project Aim:

Introduce and promote the use of re-usable cups and take away boxes in replacement of disposable coffee cups and containers

Results: 

Assumption a 10% reduction of disposable items per day, the team will prevent 100 cups and 50 containers from going to landfill per day. This is equivalent to 4,467kg CO2e across a year, equivalent to 12,865.96 miles driven in an average car.

There will be an annual financial saving of £365.07 from reduced waste. Data to calculate savings from reduced procurement was unavailable during the project.

Socially, the team aim for the project to demonstrate to staff, patients and carers accessing the restaurant that small changes can make a big difference. The team also hope to begin to promote use of the green spaces around the Hospital site as spaces to enjoy lunch for staff wellbeing.
