We are proud to share the recording from our Susnet Kidney event where we welcomed the esteemed President of the Spanish Society of Nephrology, Doctor J. Emilio Sánchez Álvarez. Emilio who discussed how Spain are leading the way on a national screening programme for early kidney disease detection.

Emilio Sánchez MD, PhD  is Head of  Nephrology at the Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias in Oviedo, Spain. He is also an associated professor of Nephrology at  University of Oviedo School of Medicine and is the current President of the Spanish Society of Nephrology.

His fields of interest are peritoneal dialysis, bone and mineral disorders,  cardiorenal syndrome and  sanitary planning and administration. He is the author of several indexed publications and  is involved in a number of research projects and RCTs.

Emilio is a strong believer in the importance of early diagnosis and in taking measures to slow down the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD). For this reason, the Spanish Society of Nephrology is accelerating  a variety of initiatives to promote primary prevention and healthy cardio-renal habits among the general population.

At the next Kidney Care SusNet Event on December 19, Emilio will discuss strategies for improving awareness and prevention of CKD in Spain. He will also share insights from his conversations with the Spanish Senate about meeting patient needs and improving CKD treatment.
