DAFB - not changed for patients in the last 10 years

The National Kidney Federations Kidney life contains an article from myself, with a patient perspective on the current Dialysis Away From Base (DAFB) situation in the UK..

I've come to realise that little has changed for DAFB in the UK.. Yes we have some more 'portable' tech, for those that have the option of transfering their equipment, but for many, with units struggling with capacity, even more so after covid. UK DAFB at times to suit patients needs have become an immense challenge..

You can read the article here: https://www.kidney.org.uk/News/kidney-life

I gave a presentation at an NKF event around 10 years ago on almost the same topic.

Thanks James for sharing this and raising awareness of the realities of 'accessibility' and travel while on dialysis. Integrated planning and portable machines feel like solutions in the medium term, but are there logistical changes now that could help - perhaps to do with scheduling, transport provision, communication (and avoiding the term 'holiday dialysis')?
