Diathermy/electrocautery recycling

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the Network and you may have discussed this before but can I ask for peoples' experience with recycling diathermy handpieces, cords and diathermy pads? We use a lot of them in surgery and they just go to landfill at present at our place. 

We just finished a study on smoke evacuation diathermy, which is important for staff health and well-being, but the smoke evacuation devices bring in even more plastic waste - this motivated us to start looking at how to reduce waste for all our diathermy disposables. 

Any thoughts, comments and shared experience would be very gratefully received.
