Hello everyone- I teach in the Dept of OT at Ithaca College, in Ithaca New York, USA. I recently completed my doctoral research looking at the role of occupational therapy in the emerging field of green ergonomics. This sparked my interest in looking at the broader concept of sustainability, and I am currently working with a group of 9 master's level OT students on a survey design research project. The survey will investigate current percpetions of the role of OT in sustainability, and the relationship between the 2 fields.

We are currently designing a survey that will be sent to OTs and OT assistants, primarily in the US however others are welcome to participate as well. The survey will list various statements and examples of the potential role of OT in sustainability and ask for feedback on if practitioners agree or disagree with that particular role. I am looking for input on the survey to ensure that we are addressing all aspects of sustainability and the potential role of OT within.

I appreciate the various resources that have been posted in this site and we are working to incorporate the perspectives everyone has shared. If you are interested in contributing to the survey, providing feedback, learning more about our study etc. please contact me at jdorsey@ithaca.edu

We hope that our research will help to facilitate reframing our profession in terms that address sustainability. This is such an important area, and I strongly believe that OT practitioners are exceptionally well suited to promote a more sustainable society because of our skill set and knowledge base.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you! Any input or comments are greatly appreciated.
