The Planetary Health Report Card (PHRC) is a student-led initiative where healthcare course students grade how well they think their university addresses and advocates for planetary health issues in:

  1. Curriculum
  2. Interdisciplinary research in health and environment
  3. Community outreach and advocacy
  4. Support for student-led initiatives
  5. Campus sustainability

The PHRC began in medical schools and there are now nursing, pharmacy and physiotherapy templates available.

The PHRC group is particularly looking for student physiotherapists to help pilot the new physio template available for the first time this academic year.

Hello Heather, I am interested in getting my students to do it but struggle to find a template OR form. Do you know where one can be acquired? Thank you. Ka Yan

Hi Ka Yan Hess

The Planetary Health Report Card runs over an academic timeframe. I assume the timings will be the same or similar for next year. In October (I think?), there is a Zoom meeting for interested Schools to receive information on the PHRC and meet other students involved.

Then the data collection for filling out the report card is done until the submission deadline (Jan/Feb time). The reports are then reviewed in time to be released on Earth Day in April.

I assume you are on OT? The PHRC started in medical schools and was piloted for nursing and pharmacy courses a few years and physio piloted last year. I don't think there is an adapted form for OT courses yet, but if you proposed and offered to adapt/pilot the form, I suspect the PHRC group would be interested in expanding to other disciplines.

PHRC is a student-led initiative though, so it would need to be led by your OT students with academics supporting. Happy to link in Uni of Brighton OT colleagues and students who might be interested - let me know.

You might want to contact the PHRC group soonish though because will take time to get a group set up to adapt the other PHRC templates to suit an OT course and follow the required criteria and structure.

Ben Whittaker - perhaps this is something the OT Sustainability Network could support?

I'd highly recommend the PHRC initiative - it's been such a fantastic way for students to lead the way in improving sustainability in University courses.
