New Case Study on Reducing Nitrous Oxide Waste in Dental Settings

I wanted to share a short case study from UCLH on reducing nitrous oxide waste in dental care.

The team at the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital tested new ways to reduce wasted nitrous oxide during dental sedation, both of which were successful.

The pilot looked at two approaches: eAdvantage™ (an alternative flowmeter) and Silhouette™ (a nasal mask) with a low-flow protocol. Both helped reduce nitrous oxide use per patient, while still aiming to maintain patient experience and clinical outcomes. The hospital has now chosen to adopt eAdvantage™ as its main approach and is exploring whether it can decommission its nitrous oxide manifold.

The findings are early and should be considered in local context, but a practical example of how dental teams are starting to build evidence and approaches to nitrous oxide mitigation and reducing emissions without reducing care quality.
