SHE Network receives HEA grant - intern opportunity
The Higher Education Authority (HEA) have awarded a teaching development grant to support collaboration between academics and medical students in teaching about the links between health, healthcare and the environment. This will allow the SHE Network to pick up on work from 2009-11: mapping current activity in medical schools, developing case studies (including screencasts of teaching sessions rated by students as outstanding) and refining the draft curriculum proposed for national consultation. Internship opportunities with the SHE Network are offered via the University of East Anglia (Stefi Barna) and CSH (Frances Mortimer) - please enquire!
SHE Network moves online
The online network at http://sustainablehealthcare.org.uk/sustainable-healthcare-education/ is now our primary means of communication and sharing resources. The network is open to students and educators from all health professions. Over the next couple of months, email addresses from the SHE email lists will be registered on the online network and the email lists will then be closed.
Curriculum recommendations to GMC & national consultation
At a meeting with the General Medical Council (GMC) in September 2011, the SHE Network was invited to develop recommendations for sustainable healthcare in medical education - with reference to all educational levels, from undergraduate to continuing professional development. A curriculum working group was formed and the final recommendations ("Sustainable Healthcare Priority Learning Outcomes") were welcomed by the GMC following their submission in January 2012. At the suggestion of the GMC, a national consultation exercise with medical education providers and regulators is now planned, to be coordinated by the SHE Network in 2012-13.

SHE Teams Activity
Full update to follow on SHE team activity in 2011-12 (mapping in progress). The aim is for each medical school to be represented within the Network by a team comprising a clinical tutor(s), public health tutor(s) and medical student(s). If you are unsure of whether your medical school is represented, or by whom, please get in touch. (You can also visit the Members tab on the network).
