Social Prescribing - the future?

I recently attended a conference at the King’s Fund in London entitled ‘Social prescribing; from rhetoric to reality’. It was a great day with lots of interesting speakers sharing their views and ideas on what exactly social prescribing is and how it is working in various parts of the country.

The following link provides access to the presentations and videos from that day. I would recommend the video of Debs Taylor and the impact on her own life of social prescribing.

There were lots of third sector representatives there and not so many GPs, which I felt was odd given how involved GPs will be in the initial process i.e. referring on to a social prescribing coordinator.

A common question was how will the third sector, mostly voluntary, organisations manage with perhaps a sudden influx of patients/clients and will there be funding for this? A question that remains to be answered.
