Hi All,
Is your professional body part of UK Health Alliance on Climate Change? NO! There are no AHP bodies as part of this alliance so our voices are not united in reports, requests, policy advice and changes which we have expertise on, and reduces the impact in climate issues in health. We are calling on all our professional bodies to join the UKHACC as a way to create positive change, a louder voice and greater understanding of the role of healthcare and climate issues. It would help if they have had members requesting this before we meet so they pay more attention!
Why should they join?
-
Climate change is the greatest global health threat facing the world in the 21st century, but it is also the greatest opportunity to redefine the social and environmental determinants of health.
-
UKHACC provide information and advice about individual organisations reducing carbon - so could be helpful for professional bodies to get information, learning from other professional bodies etc.
-
AHPS are well placed to provide solutions and need to be prepared for changes as our world changes
-
Our voices should be heard at all levels we are not currently part of any the reports, letters, collective action on change within health policy reports on adaptation of health service, or calls to action which the Alliance creates.
-
Some calls such as for preventative healthcare, active travel, healthy lifestyle, food, care pathways, community services etc. we should contribute to and are central in provision.
-
We need to be part of policy reports which will impact our members and we can add value.
-
Our members have questions, want more education, we need to be aware of what campaigns are current
-
It costs 28.5pence per member per YEAR - so between 0.1-0.2% of the membership fee depending on your organisation.
Do you think that would be worth 2.3pence a month to have our voices included?
Please write to your professional organisation - ideally before 14th November but any time will do. Thank you!
Thanks Jacqui, I’ll be sure to ask BAMT to sign up
