Every 20 Seconds-A play inspired by realities of kidney disease

Furat Al-Murani

Overview

Every 20 seconds a life is lost to kidney disease worldwide. A moving theatrical production of hope, loss, resilience, and humanity.

This is a charitable event. All proceeds will support kidney patients and the ongoing work of the West London Kidney Patient Association.

Inspired by the updated global burden of chronic kidney disease, 1 death every 20 seconds, published in February 2026.

EVERY 20 SECONDS confronts one of the most urgent and overlooked health challenges of our time. Every 20 seconds, a life is lost to chronic kidney disease worldwide.

An abstract court is convened to ask a question that statistics alone cannot answer:

What lies behind every 20 seconds?

Blending opera, ballet, and theatre, EVERY 20 SECONDS transforms numbers into voices, evidence into testimony, and lived experience into a powerful act of collective witness.

Through music, movement, and testimony, a single statistic is transformed into a living chorus of human experience.

In this immersive abstract court trial, stories of illness, care, resilience, hope, and survival emerge from across the global kidney community, challenging audiences to confront what lies behind a number—and what it means to be seen, heard, and remembered.

Behind every 20 seconds is

A life.
A family.
A story.

A moving exploration of humanity, justice, hope, and the value of every life.

Performance followed by a 20-minute audience Q&A
