On Wednesday 11th Feb the Sustainable Occupational Therapy network met and were treated to a presentation by Charlotte Senior and Alicja Bodnar, apprentices at University of East London. They talked about their learning and reflected on the skills gained and their professional development on a leadership placement focused on sustainability in healthcare. During their placement they completed the Planetary Health Report Card for their course, liaised with staff from around the university, in research, estates and community initiatives while on placement and made recommendations. This is not a paper exercise - the recommendations are being considered by their course faculty and has been a valuable contribution to the greater understanding of sustainability and the role of occupational therapy.
Not only that but their practice has changed and even beyond their placement they continue to move for change, meeting with the educational lead in the medical school and the Dean of the university! It is encouraging and hopeful to realise again that leadership comes from many levels - and promises to bring change. You can hear about their journey and find out how you can get involved.
